Bachelor's degree in civil or transportation engineering.
A minimum of 8-12 years of experience in the transportation planning and/or traffic engineering field.
Registration as a Virginia P.E. (or ability to acquire within six months if out of state) and P.T.O.E. (or ability to acquire within 12 months)
Experience in traffic design - signals, signing, pavement marking, ITS, and work zone traffic control.
Experience in design and plan production. Technical skills in traffic analysis.
Experience with VDOT design criteria, standards, and specifications and the development of technical specifications.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
• Proficient in the use of ProjectWise, Microstation and AutoCAD, including GuideSign and AutoTurn. • Experience developing Transportation Management Plans and associated analysis for complex interstate projects • Experience in the design and production of traffic engineering plans (signals, signing, and pavement marking) on multi-intersection and alternative intersection projects, and experience in the design and production of ITS plans on complex projects involving managed lanes and/or ATMS (automated traffic management systems) • Experience with computer programming, GIS, or transportation planning/traffic operations software (Synchro, CORSIM, VISSIM, or HCS) • Possess strong relationships with Virginia clients • Participate in project development (proposal writing/interview), development of technical approaches, budgeting/scheduling, and design lead and/or project management experience
