As our client’s representative, the successful candidate will provide construction management and coordination services in support of all design and construction activities. Review baseline schedules and monthly schedule updates to ensure contract compliance. Provide assistance with quality control, quality assurance and environmental compliance audits. Utilize an electronic data collection platform to track non-compliance points system components, quality control/quality assurance non-compliance and punch list issues. Provide design review support and report development. Perform over-the-shoulder and submittal reviews, review and comment on proposed field design changes and coordinate with internal team to document and track implementation of approved changes in the field. Provide coordination with inspection staff to audit contractor quality control and quality assurance activities to confirm inspection/testing results and ensure proper IA/IV testing frequencies are being met. Review inspector daily reports to ensure documentation accuracy. This Transportation Construction Engineer will join our growing team in Herndon office, but will spend most of their time working in the field at our client’s various transportation projects. You will utilize your knowledge of complex project delivery concepts, practices and procedures to complete your assigned tasks in a team environment. Your excellent verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of DOT construction processes will be valuable to this role.
Our Construction Engineer will: • Work under the supervision of senior level construction engineers, construction managers, and project managers • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost control, schedule control, change management, risk management, and performance. • Assist with implementation/interpretation of safety and environmental programs. Assist the CM team in establishing a site-wide safe working culture. • Integrate project management skills with technical knowledge to resolve field issues effectively with multiple stakeholders i.e. contractor, designer, owner. • Use problem solving skills to analyze problems and communicate solutions i.e. flow charts, fishbone diagrams. • Work with the Lead Inspectors to ensure that inspection documentation accurately and completely reports the work that has occurred, including all items of non-conformance to the contract documents and approved change orders. • Assists with monitoring construction contractor operations for process conformance with the approved quality control plan, schedules, change notices, pay requests, and record drawings in accordance with construction documents. • Assist with Risk Management program by utilizing excel software skills and analytical abilities. • Set up new projects on document management system and monitor the accuracy and completeness of document management system data entry. • Identify plan errors, site condition changes, or necessary field adjustments that are observed and make appropriate recommendations to the Construction Manager. • Perform inspections of related construction activities under supervision of the Construction Manager. • Communicate and coordinate with inspections staff on change orders and associated work. • Prepare drafts for project reports, meeting minutes and correspondence as required. • Assist in investigating construction claims; assist in monitoring progress of a claim when placed on notice by the Contractor. • Review record drawings for accuracy and completeness. • Assist in the administration and overseeing of the completion and close-out process. • Complete the scope of work to the satisfaction of the client, while simultaneously ensuring that CH2M’s Health Safety & Environment, quality, financial, risk management, business and policy expectations are met If you’re up for the challenge, we’re looking for someone just like you. • Bachelor’s degree in applicable discipline • Minimum 3 years progressive field engineering experience - on-site experience on transportation or other related projects • Must be able to read and understand construction drawings and specifications • Experience with the administrative, contractual, inspection, business aspects of the construction process within the transportation market • Experience with owner and contractor interactions • Knowledge and experience with construction scheduling • Must be able to use of Microsoft Office, Primavera scheduling software, and Claim-Digger software • Must possess the physical ability to move around an active construction site • Valid driver’s license with no major infractions
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
• MS in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Engineering • Certified Construction Manager in Training certification from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) • Adept at interpersonal relationship building, conflict resolution, and participating in diverse teams • Excellent oral and written communications, self-motivation, team-oriented work practices, and strong data analysis & technical problem-solving skills
