Transportation Design Manager -Toronto

Our fast growing team is currently delivering some of North America’s most exciting infrastructure planning and design assignments.
We are looking a highly motivated and personable individual to manage lead and expand our transportation engineering and design team in Toronto. Your primary role will be to provide day to day leadership to a small and growing transportation design team located in Toronto and coordinate with our global engineering and design resources. As Design Manager you will be responsible for coordinating the design delivery and team on multiple assignments simultaneous, and coordinating the design with other practices. In this role, you will be supported by a strong business development team, senior practice leaders, discipline leaders, and a strong global transportation practice and design staff.
In addition to your primary role, as a senior member of our team you will provide input into strategy develop and take on project work/roles including: Project Manager; roadway design lead or senior project engineer, depending on project specific requirements.
Primary Role Responsibility
Have a thorough knowledge of highway, municipal and roadway engineering and design.
Provide Design and Design Management deliverables to Project Managers.
Work closely with the Manager of Talent and Project Managers to assure assignment of appropriate staff to projects.
Serve as a mentor and technical leader to junior/intermediate staff by assisting with finding answers to technical questions and concerns.
Actively support the North American Highway and Bridge Discipline Lead with technical standards and quality management.
Champion the delivery of high quality projects that meet or exceed client expectations.
Monitor project execution and progress, staff resource, schedule, scope, budget, and client issues necessary to achieve successful project completion. Take actions required, including involving Manager of Projects and/or Manager of Talent and Quality Manager (RTQM) to improve project performance.
Secondary Role Responsibility
Act as Project Manager; design lead or senior project engineer on a variety of assignments
Assist Client Account Managers and the sales team in production and pricing of proposals.
Provide input to the Regional Practice Lead with respect to opportunities and strategy development within the geography. Leverage existing relationships to win new work.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
Education, Experience and Certification
10-15 years of road and highway design experience in Ontario.
Design and Design Management experience on complex multi-lane freeway MTO assignments.
Experience with Environmental Assessment, Preliminary Design and Detail Design assignments.
Experience with design build and PPP assignments an asset.
Experience with municipal clients, TTC and Go Transit and asset.
Experience developing and monitoring design delivery budgets and staffing plans.
Bachelor Degree in Engineering
Licensed professional engineer in the Province of Ontario
