The Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications from accomplished individuals with an earned PhD or equivalent degree in engineering to be Director of our First-Year Engineering Program (http://www.engineering.pitt.edu/First-Year/First-Year/Home/) starting Fall 2018. This is a tenured/tenure-stream, associate or full professor rank position. The Director position involves: first year curriculum content, pedagogy, and improvements; coordination with faculty teaching in the program and related departments (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry); coordination of the first year seminar; and first year research conference. We wish to recruit an individual with strong accomplishments in disciplinary and/or engineering education research, who has an established pedagogical track record in working with undergraduate engineering students. Candidates must be committed to contributing to high quality education of a diverse student body at the undergraduate level.
Located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh is a top-five institution in terms of NIH funding and ninth in terms of NSF funding. The Swanson School of Engineering, consistently ranked among the top programs in the country, has outstanding research and educational programs. US News and World Report ranks the engineering school 50th ‘Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs’. The school hosts six engineering departments and awards ten undergraduate engineering degrees. The undergraduate and graduate student populations are 3,000 and 950, respectively. Student to faculty ratio is 17 to 1. Approximately 45% of our undergraduate engineering students participate in Co-Op and 42% of our graduating class has had an international education experience.
