GIS ANALYST & TRANSPORTATION PLANNER – The Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) is seeking a full-time staff member to work in the Mid-Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MRMPO) division.
Essential skills: This position requires a person who is skilled in analyzing and interpreting data, spatial data entry and organization, developing, maintaining and managing databases, conducting statistical analyses, working in ArcGIS online environment, cartography, and has a basic understanding of graphic design. In addition, this position requires strong written, oral and visual communication skills, computer skills, strong interpersonal skills, and a willingness to assist other staff as assigned.
Preferred skills: Programming knowledge and understanding of ArcGIS Server Enterprise/Portal environment, ArcPy or other scripting languages, ESRI Roads and Highways, and a basic understanding of transportation-urban-regional planning practices.
Duties and responsibilities: Maintaining and administering various GIS systems and spatial data; identifying data quality issues and adapting GIS applications to suit; working with ArcGIS Online and developing interactive maps; developing and preparing GIS layers, applications, and data sets; producing maps ; geocoding addresses and other data; and project management duties including project budgets, reviewing invoices, and ordering equipment and supplies.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master's degree in planning, geography, computer science, surveying, engineering, earth sciences, or a related field. Courses such as statistics, cartography, GPS measurement and analysis are also beneficial. Salary is entry to mid-level depending on qualifications and experience.
