The School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon is expanding to further increase the impact of its mission of research and education and invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Architectural Engineering to begin in Fall 2019. Outstanding candidates may also be considered at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The individual in this position is expected to perform a combination of duties related to teaching and research in one or more of the Architectural Engineering (ARE) disciplines of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; electrical and lighting systems; building envelopes; building energy systems; or related areas.

The School of Civil and Construction Engineering is home to the Kiewit Center for Infrastructure and Transportation and the O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Center. A new facility named the Complex for Resilient Infrastructure and Safety (CRIS) is currently under development. The School currently offers B.S., M.S., M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering and a B.S. degree in Construction Engineering Management. The School has approximately 1000 undergraduate and 185 graduate students. The faculty includes 39 members, with areas of specialization that currently include construction engineering management, engineering education, geomatics engineering, geotechnical engineering, infrastructure materials engineering, ocean and coastal engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, and water resources engineering.
A new Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program in Architectural Engineering (ARE) will provide students with breadth and depth in the engineering sciences of buildings and their systems: structural systems; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; electrical and lighting systems; and construction engineering and management. The program will emphasize integration across architectural engineering disciplines as well as with the existing civil engineering and construction engineering management programs. The ARE program will allow students to specialize in a chosen discipline while gaining the knowledge and skills to become leaders in the sustainable design and construction of buildings.
The Architectural Engineering (ARE) program and faculty will support OSU's mission and goals for education, research and service by providing an integrated, multidisciplinary program in the engineering sciences of buildings and their systems. The AE program will both leverage and strengthen the existing curricula and research in Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE). New ARE courses and faculty will broaden the school's impact in OSU's signature area of advancing the science of sustainable earth ecosystems, to now encompass the ecological footprint associated with energy efficient buildings and sustainable design and construction practices. Students already interested in CCE will have an additional option and competitive advantage in an ARE program that will provide them with knowledge and skills to become leaders in sustainable building design and construction.
Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension positions and MLS for Library positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or other setting, and develop a research program in the academic discipline/unit.
The successful candidate must:
Have earned a Ph.D. with an emphasis in an Architectural Engineering discipline by date of employment;
Demonstrate the potential to develop an externally-funded independent research program, to publish peer-reviewed scholarly papers in the academic discipline, and to collaborate with researchers across disciplines including but not limited to those represented in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering;
Demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to architectural engineering;
To be considered at the Associate Professor or Professor level, the candidate must have teaching experience, research experience and publications commensurate with these levels to be granted the same rank at Oregon State University.
