The Community Development Department is recruiting for Associate Engineer. This position will primarily be responsible for the management of traffic, transportation, and ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) related capital improvement projects during the planning, environmental clearance/permitting, design, and construction support phases. This position may oversee residential and commercial development projects and other capital improvement projects as necessary.
Examples of job duties include:
Assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, engineering standards and priorities.
Checks on-site and off-site improvements to commercial and multi-family buildings for plan compliance.
Prepares and administers the capital improvement plan and budget in assigned areas of responsibility.
Receives public works complaints and directs to appropriate division.
Conducts field inspections and consultations with property owners, contractors, inspectors, utility companies and other City officials.
Participates in the review of proposed private developments, construction projects, traffic flow, work site control, and establishes conditions for approval.
Assists with the issuance of public works permits for utility companies and contractors.
Reviews and approves, as required, plans for construction prepared by private engineers.
Checks computations and specified materials for accuracy and conformance with regulations.
Serves as staff to the City Council, Planning Commission, and various committees on engineering, public works or related matters; prepares written reports, memos, and presentations
Serves as project manager on assigned capital projects with a focus on traffic and ITS related projects
Coordinates citizen participation in public works projects such as, but not limited to, traffic related infrastructure, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, and sewer and storm facilities.
Participates in the selection and supervision of private professional engineers for the development of plans and specifications, studies and reports; assigns, schedules, monitors and evaluates work of assigned personnel.
Prepares estimates, bids, change orders, and other similar tasks associated with construction projects.
Serves as information source on surveying to public and other City departments.
Serves as information source on engineering related matters to public; performs related duties as required.
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience.
Prior traffic/transportation engineering experience in a municipal agency setting is highly desirable.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a BS degree in civil engineering or related field.
