Kimley-Horn, one of Fortune Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For,” is looking for a Transit Planner to join our Richmond, VA team.

As an planner, you will perform a variety of tasks, supporting various project managers and collaborating with team members. You will receive both on-the-job and formal training as well as mentorship, camaraderie, and exposure to plan production, project financials, and client interactions. We offer consulting services to the private and public sectors in a wide range of disciplines, including urban planning, multimodal transportation planning, economic development and real estate market analysis.

Our team is seeking a creative, detail-oriented teammate to take an active role in broad-based land use, transportation and mobility planning. The ideal candidate will have an educational background in urban planning with interests relevant to these issues in coordinating community planning and transportation.  Internship experience will include working with senior project managers to serve public or private sector clients on a variety of urban planning projects with potential collaboration with planning teams from Kimley-Horn offices throughout the United States.

Projects may cover a wide spectrum of the profession including:

  • Transportation and parking studies
  • Rail and transit studies
  • Mobility Studies involving Transportation Network Companies (TNCs)
  • Bike and pedestrian plans
  • Community master plans
  • Small Area Plans
  • Downtown revitalization plans
  • Zoning and entitlements support

Activities may include:

  • Planning-related research and analysis
  • Mapping and cartography
  • Demographic and real estate data collection and analysis
  • Report production (writing and design)
  • Community outreach
  • Market Analysis
  • Alternatives Development
  • Strategic Planning

Desired Skills:

  • Have or in the process of receiving a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Urban Planning or related field by summer 2019
  • Strong oral and written communication, leadership, and technical skills
  • Ability to work in diverse teams on multiple projects
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
  • Candidate must have experience with ArcGIS and Microsoft Office

Desired Qualifications:

  • Participation in professional societies or extracurricular activities
  • Applicable internship experience and/or work experience
  • Experience using CommunityViz and ESRI Business Analyst Online is a plus.
