Position Summary:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) of the School of Engineering, Rutgers—New Brunswick, is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in three broad areas of Construction Management, Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering. The hire is intended to augment the expanded growth of the Department in the new Richard Weeks Hall of Engineering Building. The anticipated start date of the employment is September 1, 2020. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The faculty search aligns with strategic directions of the department, and recognition of the need for building collaborative relationships between engineering disciplines and beyond. Of special interest for this search are candidates demonstrating knowledge, creativity and innovation in: 1) Smart and connected communities, 2) Resilient infrastructure systems, and 3) Sustainable and intelligent urban systems. The candidates with interest and experience in new ways we build, maintain and operate our systems through automation; instrumentation and modeling for smart and connected communities; sensing and artificial intelligence for improved building and infrastructure performance; designing and building of infrastructure systems more resilient to the impacts of climate change and natural disasters; waste reduction and waste reuse-circular economy; efficient use of land resources; developing deeper understanding of how the built environment interfaces with the natural environment and the society; energy-efficient mobility through planning of communities and transportation systems; and similar, are invited to apply.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree and PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The successful candidate is expected to develop a well-funded research program and build collaborative relationships with research programs within the School of Engineering, and other programs inside and outside the University. The successful candidate is also expected to develop and teach new courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels within the department that incorporate the state of the art knowledge and innovation. Finally, the CEE Department is committed to promoting and maintaining a diverse and inclusive culture and expects the faculty to actively contribute to this mission.
