| The Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering (CSEE) at the University at Buffalo (UB), State University of New York, invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of transportation systems engineering, starting in August 2020. Priority is for candidates at the assistant professor level, although highly qualified individuals will be considered at all ranks. We are particularly looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a diverse community of students and faculty and share our vision of helping all constituents reach their full potential. This position will expand and strengthen the current faculty capabilities and capitalize on a recent endowment for the Stephen Still Institute for Sustainable Transportation and Logistics (SS ISTL). The new hire will support departmental growth in transportation systems engineering, and will be an integral part of the ISTL team. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: emerging technologies in transportation that go beyond connected and automated transportation applications (e.g., urban air mobility, flying cars); transportation/infrastructure systems design and management; public-private partnerships; travel behavior modeling; transportation safety and security; analysis of driving behavior; statistical/econometric modeling in transportation with an emphasis on addressing multiple layers of unobserved heterogeneity and transferability; and integration of statistical/econometric modeling and emerging sources of transportation data (e.g., naturalistic data, driving simulation data, etc.). Experience in engineering education research is also highly desirable. Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an internationally recognized research program, to contribute to teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses, to develop and deliver distance learning modules, and to provide service to the University and the profession. They are also anticipated to seek collaborative opportunities with MCEER, IBE, CCR, and other campus-wide initiatives. Candidates must hold a doctorate in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a closely related field. PhD must be conferred prior to appointment.
